Green Schools Section
Welcome to our Green Schools section. Pupils and staff in St. Aiden's have been involved in the International Green Schools Environmental Programme for over 20 years! We have 11 green flag awards. Each flag awarded requires working on a new environmental theme, while sustaining work on previous themes.
The themes we are involved in are: Travel; Waste Management and litter ....reuse, reduce, recycle; Water; Energy; Marine Environmentl; Biodiversity and Developing Global Awareness and Citizenship. We received our 11th Green flag in June 2022. The theme was Global Citizenship Food and Biodiversity. We are now Green School Ambassadors
Pupils elect a new committee every two years.
Look at our video to see all we do for our environment.
Having completed all of the An Taisce Green flags programmes (11 flags) St Aiden's NS are now Climate Ambassadors-one of only 12 such primary schools in Ireland! This involves completing five climate challenges throughout this school year:- Mulch that Matter (community Litter pick) Zero Food Waste, Zero Power Hour, Rain Rebels and Pond Power. We are The Wildlife Protectors and right now we are working on a pond and looking forward to seeing what wildlife will make their homes there. We also have a rainwater butt to gather our (plentiful) rain to water our lovely bee-friendly garden and our food crops. We composed and performed our 'Green School 'song. They are practical challenges and some of the pupils have already brought the challenges home, creating compost heaps, doing their own litter picks and planting bee-friendly flowers!inks so that you can get involved at home too.
